And just like that, it’s 2017!!!!
Wishing you all a very very Happy New Year!!!!
I am keeping it short today, don’t want to bore you with my blabber 1st thing in the New Year… Haha!!
Today I am sharing my new year resolutions with you all…
What is a New Year’s resolution?
According to Wikipedia: A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior.
So, to be honest, I won’t call these my resolutions since in general, resolutions always end up being broken and also I don’t really think I have an undesired habit or behavior I need to change! LOL!! More than resolutions, I want to call these my “Will make an effort to” list.
So, without further ado, here’s my list –
1) Lead a healthier life!
In general, if you’ve read my previous posts (~ Workout Motivation…, ~ Spell your Workout…, ~ Arm Challenge…, ~ Detox Water…, ~ Smoothies!!) and have been following me on Instagram (nshrivas) and Snap Chat (nshrivas) you know that the hubby and I have been making efforts to lead a healthier life, in terms of working out as well as eating better, and we aim to continue this through 2017 as well 😃
2) Put myself and my family first:
I’ve always been the one to go out of my way to please other people and in return it hasn’t always been the best for my health and sanity. LOL!!
So in 2017, I am promising myself to put me and my family first and then everyone else. I need to make this a priority and learn to say no to other things.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be my super social self, but I won’t take unnecessary stress over it, and honestly the friends who really care will understand and those who don’t are better out of my life anyways!!
3) Step outside my comfort zone:
Stay tuned for my blog post coming to you guys this Thursday, which talks more about this topic, but in general, all I want to say is that me and the hubby are creatures of habit, and while we love it, we would like to step out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves a little more in this new year – be it trying new restaurants/cuisines or just simply trying new experiences. I am excited to say the least!!
4) Reading Challenge:
Once again like 2016, I aim to read 30 books by the end of 2017, and once again I hope to surpass this goal as I did in 2016 (read 34 books!!! Here’s where I talked about it: ~ How to Make More Time for Reading Books…). Add me on Goodreads (Niti Shrivastava Shukla) to follow along!!
5) Make this blog grow:
I’m super happy with my progress in 2016, and while I am content with how my blog performed last year, I am ready to work harder and strive to get you the best and most entertaining posts all while growing my blog and working towards making it a business.
Just recently a friend of mine said, enjoy your downtime, your time off from work, and my reply to her was nope – I am busier than before, because this time my blog is my work and it’s my baby, I ain’t an employee anymore, I am the owner and hence all responsibilities are solely mine!
6) Keep in touch with family and friends, even if they are far far away!
This one should be on everyone’s list. I am pretty good when it comes to keeping in touch with everybody, but this year I am going to work on being even more present. I know life is busy, but I also know who my loved ones are and who deserve my time no matter what! Sometimes we give too much of our time to unimportant things which in turn takes away from the time we need to give to the things that matter. So in 2017, I’m going to invest my time wisely.
7) Do more of:
– Be Happy!!
I often take stress that’s not mine! Everything is not my responsibility and I need to start working on not thinking like it is! I have many examples that come to my mind, but all I am going to say is this – in 2017, I am not going to let other people’s baggage dim my sparkle!
– Date Nights!!
The hubby and I spend lots of time together, don’t get me wrong! We go for walks, play board games, watch TV together and also have long conversations on our patio swing, all of which I love (for example, our latest addiction is playing Catan and I could proudly say (or maybe I shouldn’t be proud of it) that we played 11 hours of Catan this Christmas long weekend and ever since we atleast play 2-3 games everyday… Every.single.day!!).
So what do I really mean by more of Date Nights?! I guess I just mean that, I want us to step out of the house more often and do more things, not just restrict our date nights to a nice meal followed by a movie. For instance, I am dying to go visit the Boardgame cafe in Galveston and we still need to book the brunch cruise off of Keemah that my sister gifted me on my birthday… You get the idea, right?!
– Travel 😝
With the wanderlust bug that bit me and the hubby long time back, this is definitely top on the list!! I’ll be sharing my 2017 travel wish list in a future post so stay tuned for that.
– Cooking at home on the weekends:
I cook every day of the week except a couple of meals over the weekend. I love to cook!! But this time, my goal is to try new recipes and not eat out that much even on weekends!!
I am not a typical “buy a new dress/clothes for every occasion” kinda girl anyways, but I just want to be more mindful of how much we spend and where we spend. With “plastic money” aka credit cards it’s often tough to keep a track if you are not paying attention, so I just want to be more aware. Not that we waste money or anything, but it’s always better to have accountability!
Okies dokies smokies… That’s all I could really think of… So tell me, what are your goals for 2017? I’d love to hear!!
And before I sign off, I want to wish you all a very very Happy New Year 2017, once again! I hope 2017 brings your way everything you desire!! Be happy and stay blessed!! May 2017 be the best one yet 😉
