~ Summer fashion: Fabrics to wear!

Summer heat is brutal and especially this year it’s been crazy hot making dressing up a challenge! Wearing the right material can be a game changer.

The Best Fabrics for Hot Weather:

1. Cotton

Cotton is one the best fabrics for hot weather. Not only is it cheap and hugely available, but it is also great for the heat as it’s soft, lightweight, breathable, and also soaks up sweat, allowing heat to escape the body and for you to stay cool.

It comes in countless styles and colors, meaning you can find a cotton garment to fit pretty much any need and body type. There are also a variety of cotton blends that have different qualities to help you stay wrinkle free, like cotton polyester blend will keep you from having to iron.

One drawback is that when you are sweating a lot, it may show moisture stains by your armpits or collar if you wear it in light colors.

2. Linen

Linen is the hubby’s favorite! It is also very light and is loosely woven which allows heat to escape from the body. It absorbs a lot of moisture and dries quickly, keeping you cool and dry.

Linen also wrinkles pretty often, but often than not, it’s considered a part of the style and look of linen.

3. Rayon

Rayon is a man-made fabric blended from cotton, wood pulp, and other natural or synthetic fibers. Silk is another good fabric, but expensive, making this a cheaper alternative to silk.

Rayon has very thin fibers, which allows it to breathe more than other fabrics and gives it a lightness that prevents it from sticking to a body in hot weather. Thanks to it being so comfortable and cooling to wear, rayon is an especially good fabric for sportswear and summer dresses.

And just like that, here are a few looks I am loving this summer!

I’ll be sharing another post with more summer dressing tips and looks…

~ Work-wear Tips for Hot & Humid Summer!!

Hello hello folks!! How’s it going?! Hope its not blazing hot where you are! If you are anywhere in or near Texas, you must be getting grilled big time, coz I sure am! With the temperature being 98F and feels like 102F in the middle of June, I can’t even imagine what July and Aug will feel like!

Honestly speaking though, I like summers. The longer days, more sunlight, all things water, what’s not to like! Yes yes AC is a must though, or at-least a fan or a breeze when outdoors!

So with that said, the hot and humid weather doesn’t mean looking cute and comfortable at the same time is a challenge!! Today, I am sharing some guidelines I follow while dressing for work and yet looking professional without sweating like a piggy, especially now that I work at a chemical plant.

– Natural fabrics:

In your selection of clothes, avoid wearing synthetic fabrics – they not only cling at all the wrong places, but also get sticky and make you feel miserable!

– Loose fitting clothes:

Loose fitting doesn’t mean ill-fitting! Basically just stick to shapes that fall away from the body. The less fabric touching your skin, the cooler you’ll feel!!

– Choose soft colors:

Even though I don’t really follow a color pallet for any specific time of the year, the only thing I do in the summer is avoiding dark colors since when it’s blazing hot outside, the darker colors trap the heat, pastel shared and summer whites are a great option to feel breezy! Prints can help you hide sweat stains while feeling chic, so give them a try and don’t hesitate experimenting!!

– A sleeveless dress:

A sleeveless dress is a summer staple and very versatile. You can pair it up with a blazer for a more professional look while keeping warm inside your cool office and ditch it when stepping out for lunch or that happy hour you have been planning with your colleagues!

– Lightweight trousers or formal looking crop pants:

These are a must in my closet – enough said!

– Cotton button down shirts:

This is my choice for a more formal day at work. When I have meetings with the site leadership team, this is what I go to. Not only do they feel cool, they look crisp and professional.

– And lastly, cutesy tops!

Read summery colors and prints! They go well with your favorite work pants or skirts and add just the right amount of office chic.

What’s your summer style?!

Until next time, stay stylish!!
