~ Miami!!!

Hey y’all!! Sorry about the radio silence, life’s been busy to say the least! But I decided to get you guys a travel post before this upcoming long weekend, and what better than summer in Miami…

What do I say about Miami?! It needs no introduction, a city on everyone’s must visit list, this place has so much to offer – from the most pristine beaches, to the best night life, from the scrumptious food scene, to celebrity spotting and ofcourse let’s not forget all the shopping all while being a huge cruise port!!

We love Miami for a quick get away, quick coz we’ve been there a half a dozen times and hence it’s our choice of destination for beach relaxation now, more than enjoying the hustle and bustle. Miami comes to mind when we want to go somewhere where we can be total beach bums all while not feeling like we are missing out on what the city has to offer.

Since Miami has so much to offer and we’ve been there plenty of times, it’s easier for me to list the things to do / see instead of sharing a itinerary kinda blog post. Basically making this an easy printable list for you, so here goes:

Where to stay:

South Beach: South Beach is where it’s at, but that also means more expensive hotels. Less amenities and more price, so unless you absolutely want to, in my opinion (having stayed on this side a couple of times) stay at North beach instead. But here are some options we have stayed at:

  • Blue Moon Hotel, Autograph Collection
  • Royal Palm South Beach Miami, a Tribute Portfolio Resort
  • Beacon Hotel

North Beach / Other areas:

  • Best Western on the Bay Inn & Marina
  • Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort
  • DoubeTree Resort & Spa by Hilton Hotel Ocean Point – North Miami Beach

Rental Car: A rental car is must only if you are not staying on the South Beach side and also if you want to do other things while in Miami, else just use cab or the hop on hop off bus!

Ideal number of days:

Miami is doable over a long weekend or you can opt for more days. If you plan to drive to the Keys, and do justice to then then surely plan for more than 5 days, though it’s doable over a 4 day long weekend, just that you’ll have to do a quick day trip to the Keys which in all honesty can be enough depending on what floats your boat, more on this below, so keep reading!

Things to see / do:

South Beach is where it’s at!!

Ocean Drive: This strip stretches from 5th street to 14th and is the epicenter of South Beach.

Tour the ArtDeco Historic District: Their welcome center is at 1001 Ocean Drive. They offer walking tours most mornings.

Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue: To see some interesting fashion scenes!! And great shopping destination as well.

Espanola Way: Española Way is a historic street between 14th and 16th street on Miami Beach, stretching from Washington Avenue to the western corners of Drexel Avenue. It’s a quaint and picturesque Spanish-inspired village designed in Mediterranean Revival style.

Sunset Boat tour: Island Queen Cruises & Tours, check their website for more details.

Lincoln Road Mall: My personal favorite part of Miami!! They have shopping, great options for dining and some amazing outdoor Hookah lounges as well. It’s a fun street full of cafes and restaurants and also the perfect spot for people watching!

Nikki Beach for brunch: I mean, you kinda have to do brunch here before enjoying their section of the beach, which is gorgeously maintained.

Hop on hop off tour: Always a good way to tour the city.

Boat tour of celeb houses: Miami Tour Company, check their website for more details.

Havana town tour thingi: Little Havana Tours, check their website for more details.

Miami Seaquarium: If you love animals – this is great experience!

Swimming with Dolphins: Swimming with the Dolphins is one of the most amazing things we have done and can’t wait to make LilMissK do it when she’s older. The Seaquarium does it, so check their website for more details on this.

Nude Beach: NOT for the weak hearted!!

World Erotic Art Museum: Another one that’s not for the weak hearted, but is pretty interesting and crazy cool. Ok! Don’t judge!!

Jetskiing / Parasailing: Another fun activity to enjoy while in Miami!

Where to eat:

There are many crazy restaurants around, some being:

Front Porch Café (great brunch scene), Balans (for fusion cuisine), Spris (for pizza), Prime One Twelve (for steak), Nobu (for Peruvian-influenced Japanese), Blue Door (for some eclectic French-Tropical cuisine) and Skybar, WetWillie’s for drinks and if you want more crazy wild dance party kinda night – Opium Garden or Nikki Beach are your calls.

Indian Restaurants:

Most of these places are very famous, so make reservations beforehand. And keep your eyes open, celebrity stopping is quite common here!!

The Keys:

A separate post is going to follow this one very soon, as The Keys (namely Key West) deserves it’s own like light, so stay tuned for that!!

Spring break is a good time to head on over to Miami, and if not now, then definitely make a plan for this summer!

Until next time, stay wanderlust struck!!
