As promised in my previous post (~ New Year, New Goals…), here comes my post where I am talking about why we should step out of our comfort zone.
Comfort zone… what’s that??
According to Wikipedia – “The comfort zone is a psychological state in which a person feels familiar, at ease, in control and experiences low anxiety and stress. In the zone a steady level of performance is possible.”
So why is it a bad thing to want to stay in your comfort zone??
Yup! You read the pic right. Magic happens outside your comfort zone.
Why you ask? Well it’s simple!! This happens because magic is out of the ordinary, magic isn’t easy and magic surely isn’t a habit. Magic is magic and when you step out of your comfort zone, you experience magic! Magic of new experiences, new begennings, new opportunities, new friends and a whole lot of other new things!
I am no philosopher, but I surely have learnt that stepping outside your comfort zone is the key to succeeding beyond what you think you are capable of and today I am sharing some reasons as to why you should step out your comfort zone.
1. FOMO (aka Fear of missing out)
If you do not step out of your comfort zone, you may possibly miss out on a lot of fun things life has to offer.
You may miss out on meeting new friends who might become an important part of your life, miss out on new experiences that life brings your way and even miss out on opportunities that don’t always knock on your door and have to be worked for!!
2. You learn new things:
Everytime you step out of your comfort zone you learn something new about others, about the surroundings and also about yourself!!
You’d be surprised to find new strengths and even weakeness, you had no clue about, when you expose yourself to new things in life and this in turn would make you more aware of yourself and your surroundings.
3. You discover new places:
Traveling is fun, but sometimes we can get caught in the rut of visiting the same kind of place and doing the same thing over and over again. Once in a while it definitely is a good idea to do something new.
4. Try new products, shop at new places:
I’ve been guilty of shopping at the same stores for many many years and only now (after being bored of the collection at my usual stores) I am stepping out of my usual and discovering new brands and actually loving it!
I have also started branching out in the products I use, I surely have my favorites, the ones that are are repeat (you can read more about them here) but I don’t shy away from trying new products. I usually try a product by getting the small size or travel size (if they come in those) or reading through reviews of products I am interested in, so that I don’t waste money should I not like what I am trying.
5. You try new foods:
I am not the pickiest when it comes to trying new food, but not very daring either. The hubby is surely pickier than me! Haha!! He’s going to kill me for putting this up on the blog. LOL!!
Since we both are kinda creature of habit, we don’t often try new restaurants or cuisines hence trying new restaurants is a recurrent item on my bucket lists!
6. You feel good about yourself:
When you try something new or go someplace new you feel so proud and good about yourself.
Knowing you’ve done something new, that is so unlike you, whether you enjoyed it or not, can really make your day better and make you feel good about yourself!
7. You stand up for yourself:
Stepping outside your comfort zone makes you understand yourself much better – your likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses – it all comes together once you force yourself to step out of your comfort zone in turn being bold and respecting yourself.
Not to lie, stepping out of your comfort zone will always be scary and make you anxious but it will always be worth the while and will leave you feeling good.
