Heya! How’s it going?! Are you guys loosing it already!? LOL!! Honestly, we are hanging in there, it is difficult to not be able to do our regular normally scheduled summer fun stuff, but at the cost of being healthy – that would not be welcome anyways! I understand we are probably the more conservative of the lot when it comes to being safe in these strange COVID times, but honestly, in our opinion (and my hubby is quite a chill person) we are going to continue this way, till the numbers dip and do not spike up again!
Anyways, today’s post wasn’t aimed at this… So let’s get back to the story, shall we! Basically, it’s summer and everyone wants a beach vacay! It might be difficult to travel far, so I am sharing a nice little beach getaway you and your family could make a weekend getaway out of, if you are in or around Houston, that is – and I am talking about none other than Corpus Christi and the nearby areas like Port Aransas and Mustang Island today!!
So let’s dive in, shall we 🙂
Good resource to check before heading that way: Corpus Christi Website
How far is it from Houston: A quick 3 hours and 15 minutes drive, pretty scenic too! A part of the drive includes a quick ferry in Port Aransas – which is super fun!
Where to stay: There are many options… We stayed at the Schlitterbahn Water Park at Waves Resort and it was the best decision we made. If you have kids, do yourself a favor and stay here. Even though it’s a bit of a drive from the “downtown” and other attractions, it’s a great way to keep the kids entertained and busy. And it’s very close to both Mustang Island and Padre Island National Sea Shore.
Things to see:
- The Texas State Aquarium
- USS Lexington Battleship
- Padre Island National Sea Shore
- Schlitterbahn Waterpark
- Mustang Island
- South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center
- Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History
- FunTrackers Amusement Park
- Harbor Bridge
- Corpus Christi Bay
- Selena Memorial Statue
- Texas Surf Museum
- Texas Sealife Center
So while there isn’t much to do, it’s enough to make your weekend getaway fun and relaxing!
Disclaimer: Given the current circumstances (thanks COVID!), I am in not saying you should travel. Infact, we aren’t. I am just sharing places we have visited and loved! Please travel at your own discretion. Thanks!!
Until next time, stay happy!
