~ Detox Water…

If you read my ~ Workout Motivation… post you would know that the hubby and I have been working out for a while now, and have been following a healthy lifestyle as well. A huge part of this is drinking a lot of water.

While drinking more water is easier for the hubby, I need to make my water taste interesting to drink more. I have been on the detox water bandwagon for a while now, over a year actually. Detox Water not only tastes great and has zero calories, it also has a lot of health benefits and since my water taste interesting, I drink more water without even realizing it.

Detox Water Benefits:

  • Improves my mood.
  • Flushes toxins from the system.
  • Fills us up, so we don’t eat as much junk.
  • Naturally helps the body release fat cells for water weight loss.
  • Keeps food moving through the system.
  • Keeps organs healthy while you’re sweating.
  • Reduces muscle fatigue while working out.
  • Helps recuperate faster from a workout.
  • Keeps us from feeling groggy in the afternoon.

Today in this post I am sharing some detox water recipes that are on repeat in our household. I found recipes online but have tweaked and renamed them based on how we prefer them. So here they are:

My favorites:

Warm Lemon Water

One of the simplest and most effective ways to detox and boost metabolism is by drinking warm lemon water, even better if you start your day with a glass of warm water with lemon and honey, before breakfast. This is an ancient Ayurvedic detox tradition that boosts the immune system, aids weight loss, benefits the skin and improves digestion. My grandfather-in-law introduced me to this before my wedding and it worked wonders for me! Since then, I have been following this off and on, just depends, but off late, I have gotten more regular with it 🙂

If you are lazy sometimes, just simply add lemon to your water. Lemon water has many benefits, for example:

  • Lemons contain pectin fiber, which assists in fighting hunger cravings!!
  • Drinking lemon water can also help boost your immune system.
  • The antioxidants in lemon juice are known to reduce blemishes, wrinkles, and other skin issues.
  • Lemon water will also boost your metabolism if you simply just drink a glass of it every morning about thirty minutes before breakfast!

Spa Detox Water

Lemon, Cucumber and mint in the water for me is the definition of spa water! Lemon helps to cleanse and alkalize the body, mint helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion while adding a few slices of cucumber to your water makes for excellent re-hydration, and you benefit from its anti-inflammatory properties.

Citrus Detox Water

This refreshing mix of orange slices along with cucumbers and mint leaves creates is one of my all time favorites. Cucumbers have an anti-inflammatory properties and is known for its antioxidant properties. Mint not only adds a sweet taste to the drink but also helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion. Oranges aid with healthy blood circulation that helps reduce bloating and when combined with cucumbers and mint, it leaves us feeling a little bit lighter by the end of the day!

Strawberry Detox Water

Strawberries provide antioxidants and added vitamins and minerals to your body. This makes it a great detox recipe for the scorching summer months, when we sweat more than usual. The taste of strawberries when you sip your water makes it easier to drink more water and is very refreshing too.

Fancy recipes:

Watermelon Detox Water

This one couldn’t be simpler to create and definitely is super refreshing especially during the summer! The watermelon infuses the water, creates a beautiful, subtle sweet smell and taste.

Tropical Detox Water

This combination of strawberry, kiwi and lemon is not only super hydrating, but it also has some fantastic detoxifying benefits from the lemon, as well as a mega boost of vital nutrients, powerful vitamins and essential minerals from the kiwifruit and strawberries.

Spicy Detox Water

Apple and cinnamon in water taste spicy! Too strong for my liking, but if you like the taste of cinnamon, give this a try. These ingredients in water help digest food. Cinnamon is extremely healthy for the heart and brain, and also speeds up metabolism and helps regulate blood sugar. Anise is a very powerful spice that helps with digestion and insomnia.

Instructions to make Detox Water:

Slice fruits or vegetables of your choice into bite-sized pieces. Always use fresh fruits and wash them well beforehand. In a jug, place sliced fruits at the bottom and pour water until full and seal with a lid. Mint can be added to any and all of the above recipes!

For best flavor, let it seep into the water by keeping it in the fridge overnight (for stronger flavor) or simply for 30 minutes to an hour. If you running low of time, or have forgotten to prep in advance, worry not, go ahead and combine your choice of ingredients with cold/room temperature water (the flavor will be infused as you go) and enjoy!

Keep it in the fridge up to two days, water is most refreshing when cold. Do not let the jug empty or else the fruits can spoil. Best is to make these fresh.

These recipes are not set in stone. If you are running low on time or ingredients you can also simply just add one ingredient readily available, to water and enjoy! Detox water can be as simple as just mint leaves in water, you do not have to always whip up something fancy!

Note: Only lemon can be combined with hot/warm water. Rest of the ingredients need cold or atleast room temperature water.

So what are you waiting for? When you go do grocery next time, put some of these ingredients for detox water recipes on your list: strawberries, cucumbers, lemons, oranges, mint and if you are feeling fancy, add to your list kiwi, blueberries, raspberries, and watermelon as well.

Cheers to a simple way of healthy living!! Sip and Enjoy!

  1. One problem is that cold water slows down your metabolism – can you suggest some detox water recipes that don’t need to be in the fridge?

    • Ummmm…. That’s very true! What I do is let them sit in the fridge over night for a crisper taste and better infused taste but take the jut out first thing in the morning and set it on the kitchen counter, once it comes to room temperature I continue drinking that throughout the day… I’ll look some up that don’t need to be in the fridge and update very soon 😊👍🏼
